Which Abilities are Terrible for Competitive, but GREAT for Casual Play?
All Pokémon have abilities, and sometimes they become a lethal combination and soar to the top of the competitive scene! (Or so I hear...) However sometimes a Pokémon can be written off as having a "bad" ability, but they're just not designed for battling on the front lines and their purpose lies somewhere else! So let's see which abilities are the best for Casual play!

Whenever you reach the end of a Pokémon game to face down the Elite Four, you can either end up underwhelmed or blown away! What if Pokémon Were Only a Single Type?
Переглядів 35 тис.14 днів тому
Out of the hundreds of Pokémon across the series a great many of them combine different types together to form unique pairings, however what if didn't? What if, by some fluke or limitation, Pokémon were only allowed to be defined by a single type? How would that change some of our most beloved pocket monsters and influence how they interact with the world?
The Preposterous World of Pokémon Base Stats

Did you know that Komala is stronger than most of the cool, tough Pokémon you could think of? Well it has a higher Attack Stat at least, and these sorts of outlandish discrepancies are what we'll be looking into today; How could that Pokémon possibly be slower than a much larger, heavier foe? Why in the world does this tiny little thing pack so much Special Attack, etc.?
Which Legendary Pokémon Duo Is the Most Unbalanced?

Which Pokémon Game is Best for a Mono-Type Fire Team?

Out of the starter types, Fire definitely has it the worst with a mix of being hard to find in most games, while also having many weaknesses early on! However that doesn't mean Fire should be counted out because there are some regions where Fire works rather well , and maybe even Better than Grass or Water? So let's see where the Fire types function as an all-consuming inferno, and where they b...
Which Pokémon Have Unique Egg Group Combinations?

Breeding Pokémon is a favorite pass-time of many trainers out there, but to successfully do so you'll need to master the Egg Groups, which limit the possible pairings a Pokémon can have! The Most Creative Pokémon Choices We All Forget About

Just because Tinted Lens isn't often given to strong pokemon absolutely does not mean it is bad competitively. Having all your moves hit at least neutrally is fantastic for any offensive mon. Lokix has a BST of 450, and is tiered UU because of this ability. Just wait until it is given to a pokemon with the stats of a paradox pokemon or a Psuedo-Legend, you won't hear the end of it.

@@emperorcubone I mean UU is home to Tyranitar, Metagross, Ursaluna, Zapdos, and a bunch of other former OU threats. UU isn't bad, so much as OU is just insanely power crept by insanely min-maxed paradox pokemon and legendaries. Even then, a lot of pokemon in UU can still see success in OU on the right team compositions.

Definitely better than a lot of the abilities here, but I’d like to shout out synchronise in generation six and seven. Before mints were introduced, disability was the best way to help choose the nature of a Pokémon you encounter. Just lead a Pokémon with synchronise and any wild Pokémon encountered have a 50% chance of inheriting the ability barer’s nature.

I hate to bust your bubble, but some of those Abilities are not as good as you have made them out to be. 1. While technically Mycelium Might can facilitate putting a Pokémon with Insomnia or Vital Spirit to sleep, poisoning a Pokémon with Immunity, etc., it will not stay asleep, poisoned, what-have-you because Abilities that are specifically immune to status conditions will cure Pokémon of them if they appear regardless. (That is probably why Corrosion cannot bypass Immunity, only the Poison- or Steel-type immunity to poison.) 2. Technically a Pokémon with Tinted Lens can have its moves resisted because it only raises quarter damage to half. I do not know why you would use a quarter-damage move, but I inveigh against all not very effective moves anyway. There are always better alternatives to Tinted Lens. 3. I will assume that your Skitty knew Foresight because its Normalized Blizzard could not hit Glacia's two Froslass otherwise. That is admittedly much better than the usual cited pros of Normalize, like the paralyzing Ground-type Pokémon with Thunder Wave. Do you know what else can paralyze a Ground type? Stun Spore and Glare. (Really any non-Electric-type move capable of paralysis can paralyze a Ground type, but those are the only other such status moves.) Yes, Stun Spore has failed against Grass, Overcoat, and Safety Goggles since Generation VI, but Ground has only been paired with Grass thrice and Overcoat and Safety Goggles are niche, not to mention that Wormadam (Sandy Cloak) is the only Ground-type Pokémon that can have Overcoat. Glare, meanwhile, has no inhibitors, apart from Ghost in Generations II and III, before Normalize existed. Furthermore, Normalize's power boost only applies in Generation VII and onward, so in Generations IV-VI, your Skitty or Delcatty is screwed. Cute Charm and even Wonder Skin are better for those two. On the other hand, you will be glad to hear that Pickup has picked up opponents' used items since Generation V. You may also like to know that Aftermath's Japanese name translates to "Induced Explosion," which is why Damp negates it.

Personally, if Geeta didn't wait till the DLC to do this, it would have been much better. Like, if she pulled out an improvement in the Academy Star Tournament, doing the swap around, it would have been better both as a lore reason for her quote "I am unable to hold back." Reason I say this, the only other Champion Ranked Trainer you meet is Nemona, who is looking for a rival. And Geeta would have wanted Nemona to have someone who was able to face off against her as an equal. But, until you came around, nobody else could have beaten her team, so when you showed up, she likely was likely at the point where she had tried to hold back just to have Nemona have someone on sort of equal footing. Than, once you save the region in the base game, she could have been like "Ok, he is definitely ready for a full out battle." And just put Glimora out first and save Kingambit for last. Wouldn't have even to do the Flying Terra Type even back than. Just switching up the order would have been a massive improvement.

I don't know if is still so in recent gens competitive metagames, but in earlier gens copetitive "Explosion" is actually a moves that many aggressive teams carries, and even some other ones carried that to trade a 1vs1 loss of a mon if this trade is their own weakened/low life mons vs a threat of the opponent teams that otherwise they could not handled easilly. So Damp as an ability is not wothless

When I played X and Y for tyhe first time, i got a Sylveon as soon as I possibly could, and of course ended up having the ability Cute Charm. Seldom used in competitive, but considering I had no status moves back then, I loved the opportunity to occasionally paralyze an attacker, especially since my Sylveon was very overleveled and could easily tank attacks. Made the game more exciting. Not to mention, there's nothing funnier than watching a real player seethe over losing to me because my pokemon are cute. Oh, bonus: I used to have Skill Swap on my Sylveon. Since he was a special attacker, I would sometimes steal my opponents' more useful abilities and then get rid of them with Moonblasts. It was fun.

In my opinion, Normalize's biggest sin was keeping Skitty and Delcatty from being retconned as Fairy types in Gen 6. Yeah, I know Normalize wouldn't make sense as an Ability on a Pokémon that is no longer a Normal type, but making them Fairy types was rather obvious, and it's really strange that they didn't get that retcon. Couldn't you have made them Normal/Fairy like you did with the Igglybuff line?

Tbf to the “losers from the indigo disk”, they probably have some of the better E4 teams in recent games. They have competitive abilities, use items like focus sashes, have high leveled Pokemon and use good move pools. Some even using actual strategies. Eg Amarys having a slow team due to being steel type so has Reuniclus who knows trick room or having am empoleon who counters her fire weakness, something Crispin also does by having a grass type to counter his fire types ground or rock weakness.
